After a wild week where we saw six slated games with wild finishes and the last two undefeated teams lose, here are my MVPs for each game.
Chiefs vs. Broncos:
MVP: Chris Jones
After a lackluster game and performance by both teams, the Chiefs’ defense demonstrated its dominance once again by holding the Broncos to only eight points. Chris Jones notched a sack and three QB hits pressuring Russel Wilson all night and leading the Chiefs to victory.
Ravens vs. Titans:
MVP: Jadeveon Clowney
It seems as if no matter what team the former No. 1 overall pick is on, he finds ways to impact games when it matters most. Clowney led this strong defensive effort in London and helped the Ravens muscle out a win after the offense struggled.
Bengals vs. Seahawks:
MVP: Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard
The Bengals' defensive performance was the definition of bending but not breaking. They held Seattle to three points on four red zone trips in the second half. It all started in the trenches with Hendrickson and Hubbard who combined for two sacks, four tackles for loss, and six QB hits. Geno Smith had no time to throw the ball and the Seahawks running game after the first drive was a no-show.
Falcons vs. Commanders:
MVP: Sam Howell
The Commanders' offense got back on track this week led by Sam Howell’s three-touchdown performance. He was smart with the football and helped get this team a victory on the road in Atlanta breaking a three-game losing streak.
Jaguars vs. Colts:
MVP: Jaguars' Defensive Line
Throughout the contest, the Jaguars defense lived in the backfield. They forced Gardner Minshew into making poor decisions with the ball, sacked him, and let up only forty-four yards rushing for an average of 2.6 yards per carry. This was an overall great performance in all aspects of the game for Jacksonville, but their defensive line is what made the defense as good as it was Sunday.
Dolphins vs. Panthers:
MVP: Tua Tagovailoa
Time and time again, Tua proves why he is an elite quarterback in the NFL. He is accurate and smart with the football and has truly grown as a passer and leader in the league. The reason why the Dolphins’ run game is so successful is that teams are scared to let Tua throw it over the top to Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle. Tua continues to impress and should be a legitimate MVP candidate right now.
Bears vs. Vikings:
MVP: Jordan Hicks
Hicks did everything for the Vikings defense this past Sunday. He had a fumble recovery for a touchdown, led his team in tackles, got an interception, and earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Vikings still struggled and are nowhere close to where they should be if they want to work their way back into playoff contention. But, a win is a win and Hicks was the driving force in this defensive game.
Browns vs. 49ers:
MVP: Everyone on The Browns
The Niners seemed unbeatable going into this week. However, the Browns’ offense came up big with some outstanding plays led by Amari Cooper and Jerome Ford. The Browns’ defense was also lights out, making Brock Purdy uncomfortable in the pocket and putting him under duress the entire game.
Texans vs. Saints:
MVP: CJ Stroud
Stroud has been the most surprising rookie thus far. I thought out of all the rookie QBs he would struggle the most and experience the most growing pains on a team that had minimal talent. I couldn’t have been more wrong. He got his first pick out of the way this week and didn’t let that faze him as he bounced back, threw two touchdowns, and led his team to a victory. His poise and IQ have been very impressive and he continues to make a strong case to take home the OROTY (Offensive Rookie of the Year) award.
Raiders vs. Patriots:
MVP: Maxx Crosby
Who else could be my MVP from the Raiders? Crosby continues to demonstrate his leadership and skill when he’s on the field. He has played a huge part in assisting the Raiders to a 3-3 start while having one of the worst offenses in the NFL. The pro bowler led the defense in tackles and notched a half-sack en route to their victory.
Buccaneers vs. Lions:
MVP: Jared Goff
Goff has been playing at a very high level consistently throughout this season. He minimizes turnovers and always finds ways to drive his team down the field and make plays for them. It is safe to say that Goff is no longer a dark-horse MVP candidate and should be considered a legitimate MVP contender as he has led the Lions to a 5-1 for the first time since 2011.
Rams vs. Cardinals:
MVP: Kyren Williams
Before the second-year back suffered an injury, Williams racked up a 158 yards and two touchdown performance to carry the Rams to a win over the Cardinals. Week in and week out, Williams’ efforts on the ground have solidified him as a top running back in the NFL, making the Rams’ offense more dynamic and difficult to defend.
Jets vs. Eagles:
MVP: Bryce Huff
Huff has been a key player for the New York Jets’ defense and has made a name for himself on a talented defense. Every player on this defense made an impact against the reigning NFC champions, but Huff stood out as he tallied a sack and a half and pressured Jalen Hurts nine times according to next-gen stats. He is a difference-maker.
Bills vs. Giants:
MVP: Stefon Diggs
This was another slugfest, prime-time game. Neither team put on a show and there were some controversial game-changing calls that I won’t get into. It makes me not want to even select an MVP for this game. However, Stefon Diggs was the highlight of the night for the victorious Bills as he caught more than half the team's completions (10 of the 19 pass attempts) for 100 yards. Even in ugly games, Diggs never fails to be a bright spot and put on a show.
Chargers vs. Cowboys:
MVP: Dak Prescott
Following an embarrassing loss and overall bad outing by “America’s Team” against the 49ers, Dak and company bounced back with a solid performance. Prescott had no turnovers and led his team in passing as well as rushing, scoring touchdowns through the air and on the ground. Although his numbers were nothing special, Prescott played smart football and led his team to a much-needed bounce-back victory.
Who were your MVPs of week 6 in the NFL?
